About
If you grew up without a street address, you know the pleasures of life on a Rural Route. A Rural Route is more than a designation, it’s a destination.
Rural Route Coffee House was created and inspired to provide consumers the convenience of having premium fresh roasted coffee products delivered to them in lieu of purchasing store-bought coffee products that would have been roasted months prior. We roast our coffee three days a week insuring a higher quality delicious coffee experience. Our roasted-to-order coffee is not only delicious, but it's also ethically sourced and carefully roasted for maximum flavor.
When it came time to decide on names for our inaugural roasts, I thought about personal experiences I associate with good coffee. Here's what I came up with:
Uncle Cecil’s
Brazil. Rich medium dark roast with full body that is sure to delight all types of coffee drinkers. The largest producer in the world, Brazil grows about one-third of the worlds coffee. This coffee comes from the region of Sul de Minas, famous for top cupping Brazilian coffees.
Cupping notes: Mild acidity, medium body, brown spice, mild citrus, roasted nut, clean finish.
Our beloved Uncle Cecil ran an auto repair business for many years in a small town in eastern Kentucky. While he was professionally known for great automotive service, he was personally known for always having a fresh pot of coffee available for customers and friends. Uncle Cecil could brew a pot of coffee like no one else. He had the touch. Friends and family would stop in just to have a cup of coffee and visit. Thinking about being there warms my heart. When I decided to name our first roast Uncle Cecil’s, I called to get his blessing. I told him I wanted to honor his tradition of making good coffee a part of the joy we get when we gather to enjoy each other's company.
Montana Crown
Columbia. Organic Excelso EP from the beautiful lush foothills of the Cordillera Central. Sourced from a small group of farmers who formed Cafe' del Macizo in 2003. These farmers share decades of knowledge and resources with each other to provide the highest quality coffee.
Cupping notes: Medium acidity, rounded body, dark chocolate, mango peach, nice complexity.
This roast is dedicated to all the brave men and women in law enforcement and specifically those who wear the Campaign hat. This style hat is generally associated with State Troopers and Sheriff's who patrol the county’s backroads. Affectionately known as a “Smokey Bear” it’s distinguished by its shape which is also known as a Montana Crown. I first tried coffee when I was a rookie Kentucky State Trooper in 1990 and working 10pm to 6am. I've been enjoying it ever since.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9, NIV).
Floyd the Barber
Medium organic blend. This is a great breakfast coffee from the Amazonas region of Peru plus Mexican beans from the Chiapas region and Ethiopia from the Sidamo region. The coop is called the Association de Producers and also known as El Palto. There are 40 women in the current 189 member coop with approximately 550 hectares of organic and Fair Trade Certified coffee in production.
Cupping notes: Medium Acidity and body, lemongrass, brown sugar, milk chocolate, sweet and savory finish.
In season 5, episode 15 of the Andy Griffith show, Andy is in the barber shop talking to Floyd about witnessing Otis falling inside the jail. As often was the case, Andy was trying to get the facts, and Floyd was talking in circles. As Floyd recounts the events of the morning Otis fell, he says Barney asked him if he wanted a cup of coffee and he said no, he’d had his cup earlier that morning. He goes on to say that he doesn’t have a second cup until "oh about 10 o’clock" and how much he likes a mid-morning cup of coffee. Floyd The Barber is dedicated to those who enjoy an early cup of coffee then a second cup mid-morning.
Mighty Oaks
Brazil, Mexico, Sumatra. Bold flavor, low acid. Perfect for any time of day. Like Uncle Cecil's, we also use Brazilian beans from Cerrado plus Sumarta from Mandehling region and Mexico Chiapas region.
Cupping notes: Mild acidity, medium body, brown spice, mild citrus, roasted nut, clean finish.
The mighty oak tree is known for its strength and longevity. This roast is a nod to one of my favorite musical groups, the Oak Ridge Boys who are also referred to as The Mighty Oaks. The Oak Ridge Boys recently announced their retirement after over 50 years of entertaining the world. Godspeed Duane, William Lee, Joe and Richard.
Thank you for the memories.
